Heroes and Powers

Every hero on HeroSMP, what their powers do, how to fire them on Java and Bedrock, cooldowns and switching rules.

Updated 9 min read

On HeroSMP you play survival as a superhero. Pick one of nine heroes and their powers become yours. Every hero is free for every player, and you can switch whenever you like.

How heroes work

  • Open the hero menu with (or , ) and click a hero to pick it.
  • At spawn you can also click the hero NPCs (Spider-Man, Superman, Iron Man, Batman, Ant-Man and Deadpool) to pick that hero straight away.
  • Each hero has two active powers, Power 1 and Power 2, plus passive abilities that are always on.
  • Your hero item lives in hotbar slot 9. Before you pick a hero it is the Hero Selector. Hold the hero item to use your powers.
  • The hero item can't be moved, dropped, stored or lost when you die. Click it inside your inventory to open .
  • If something was already in slot 9, it moves to a free slot. If your inventory is full it goes to your ender chest, and only drops at your feet if both are full.
  • To stop playing as a hero, open and click Disable Hero.
  • Your current hero shows on the scoreboard.

Controls

Hold your hero item, then use the key for the power you want.

Rules for powers

  • No powers at spawn. Every power and passive is switched off in the spawn world.
  • PvP rules apply. A power can never hurt a player who has PvP turned off, or anyone in a place where normal PvP is blocked.
  • Claims are respected. Powers that break blocks, like Heat Vision and Hand Cannon, can't break blocks where you aren't allowed to build.
  • No switching in combat. You can't pick, switch or disable a hero while you are in combat. Combat lasts 15 seconds after PvP damage, and dying clears it.
  • Cooldowns carry over. Switching heroes or logging out does not reset a cooldown.
  • Armor works differently. Hero powers go straight through armor points. What protects you is the Protection enchantment: every level of Protection, averaged over your four armor pieces, takes off 5%, up to 50% at Protection X. For example, Protection IV on every piece takes 20% off. Resistance, absorption and shields still work normally.

AbilityTypeCooldownWhat it does
Web ShotPower 125sWebs the first target you aim at within 20 blocks. It deals 2 hearts and they can't walk or jump for 2 seconds. A miss doesn't use the cooldown.
Web SwingPower 210sZip toward any block you aim at within 40 blocks. A miss doesn't use the cooldown.
Wall ClimbPassiveNoneWalk into a wall at least 2 blocks tall to grab it. W or jump climbs, S goes down, A and D move sideways, and sneak holds you still. It doesn't work in water.
No Fall DamagePassiveNoneYou never take fall damage.

Iron Man

Your suit smelts raw ore as you mine it.

AbilityTypeCooldownWhat it does
Micro MissilesPower 125sFires 3 homing rockets that lock on to a target in front of you, up to 32 blocks away. Each one hits for 1 heart plus a small blast.
Hand CannonPower 245sA blast up to 30 blocks away. Up to 5 hearts in the middle and less toward the edge, with strong knockback. It also breaks nearby blocks, but never containers or very hard blocks like obsidian.

Ant-Man

Shrink to one block tall and slip through gaps.

AbilityTypeCooldownWhat it does

While SmallPassiveNoneYou fit through one block gaps and have a tiny hitbox, but your punches do half damage.
Beneath NoticePassiveNoneHostile mobs ignore you while you are small.

Hulk

Throw the ground, leap and smash. Madder is stronger.

AbilityTypeCooldownWhat it does
Boulder TossPower 116sRip a boulder out of the ground and throw it for 3 hearts, with a splash and knockback. The ground is not damaged.
Gamma LeapPower 224sLeap about 15 blocks from the ground and slam down, dealing 4 hearts to everything within 4 blocks and knocking them up.
RagePassiveNoneTaking hits and landing hits fills your rage. At full rage your punches do up to 50% more damage. Rage drains after a few seconds out of the fight.
Hulk OutPassiveNoneWhen your rage is full you grow bigger for 8 seconds and hit with extra knockback.
UnstoppablePassiveNoneYou take 60% less knockback, and webs hold you half as long.

Moon Knight

Crescent darts, marked targets and Khonshu's judgment.

AbilityTypeCooldownWhat it does
Crescent DartsPower 114sThrows a fan of 3 darts, up to 28 blocks. Each one hits for just under 1 heart. Hit the same target with 2 darts to mark it: it glows for 8 seconds and takes 25% more damage from you.
Khonshu's JudgmentPower 230sPick a spot up to 30 blocks away. After a one second warning, a pillar of moonlight deals 2.5 hearts to everyone within 4.5 blocks and gives them Darkness. Marked targets take double.
Lunar PhasesPassiveNoneYour cooldowns are 25% shorter at night and 40% shorter during a full moon.
ProtectorPassiveNoneUndead mobs take 50% more damage from you.

Deadpool

A Desert Eagle, a healing factor and no filter.

Trick ShotPower 220s (5s on a miss)A shot up to 60 blocks for 3 hearts. It goes through up to 3 targets and bounces off up to 2 walls, getting 25% stronger with each bounce.
Healing FactorPassiveNoneAfter 6 seconds out of combat you heal half a heart every 1.5 seconds. If you drop under 3 hearts, you quickly heal 2 hearts (once a minute).
Not TodayPassiveNoneOnce every 20 minutes, a killing blow leaves you on 1 heart instead and then heals you 3 hearts. A totem is used first if you are holding one.
Fourth WallPassiveNoneNow and then Deadpool breaks the fourth wall with a quip.

The Flash

Blur through fights, throw lightning, run on water.

AbilityTypeCooldownWhat it does
Lightning DashPower 13 charges, one back every 7sDash about 16 blocks forward, hitting anyone in your path for 1 heart. Dash again within about a second to build a combo (up to 3 levels) that goes further and faster.
Lightning ThrowPower 218s (6s on a miss)Throw a bolt up to 32 blocks for 2.5 hearts. Sprint for 2 seconds first to charge it: a charged bolt hits for 4 hearts and arcs to one more enemy within 4 blocks.
Speed ForcePassiveNoneSprinting charges your bolt and makes your dash charges come back faster.
Water SprintPassiveNoneSprint straight across water. Java Edition only.

Batman

Glide on your cape, throw batarangs and vanish in smoke.

AbilityTypeCooldownWhat it does
BatarangPower 112sThrow a spinning batarang up to 24 blocks. It cuts through targets for 2 hearts, hits again for 1 heart on the way back, and disables shields for 3 seconds.
Smoke PelletPower 235sDrop a smoke cloud that gives Darkness and Slowness to others inside it. You vanish completely for 4 seconds, including your armor and held items, and mobs lose track of you. Your first hit from the smoke does 1.5x damage (up to 2 extra hearts). Taking damage reveals you.
Cape GlidePassiveNoneJump while falling (at least 3 blocks up) to glide like an elytra. Sneak to stop. Firework rockets can't boost it, and you take no fall damage while gliding. On Bedrock it is a gentler glide.

Superman

Sunlight charges you, and arrows glance off you.

AbilityTypeCooldownWhat it does
Heat VisionPower 114s in sunlight, 22s in the darkA 2 second beam, up to 28 blocks, that deals up to 3 hearts per target and sets them on fire. It burns through blocks (never containers or very hard blocks) and burned ores come out smelted.
X-Ray VisionPower 245s in sunlight, 72s in the darkFor 8 seconds, every player and hostile mob within 40 blocks glows through walls, only for you. It even shows a cloaked Batman. Java Edition only.
ResiliencePassiveNoneArrows and other projectiles do half damage to you.
Solar PoweredPassiveNoneFull sunlight in clear weather keeps your cooldowns short. At night, underground or in a storm they take 60% longer.

Playing a hero on Bedrock

  • Every hero works on Bedrock Edition.
  • The F and Q keys don't exist on Bedrock, so choose from the click options in Controls.
  • X-Ray Vision and Water Sprint are Java only. On Bedrock, Superman has Heat Vision only.
  • Batman's Cape Glide is a gentler glide on Bedrock instead of full elytra flight.
